Drive Now, Talk Later

Click and Clack are favorite talk show hosts and I've been listening to their banter for years and years on CarTalk.

Long before Oprah ever noticed how damaging it is to drive and talk or text, these intrepid fellows were handing out their bumper stickers like hot potatoes on a cold morning.

And it has been a decade or more since I plastered my bumper with one of their sticky notices. Their newest bumper sticker can be found at
http://www.cartalk.com/content/features/Drive-Now/bumper-sticker.html

You can also read some of their information about why talking and driving isn't a good idea here
http://www.cartalk.com/content/features/Drive-Now/

You might also like to know that the original and copyright NO CELL PHONE ZONE logo was created long before Oprah ever got the idea.  For some one now trying to get you not to talk and drive she sure has given out a lot of cell phones and forgotten to credit those who have been enlightening folks for years and years.

Also ahead of the glamour pack you'll find 112 posts on Natural Health News about cell phone issues.  And it is much more serious than not talking or texting while you drive.

My original web site, leaflady.org, also has an entire section titled "Electro-Smog" that has been education folks since the mid-90s. http://www.leaflady.org/ElectroSmog.htm

And don't forget cell phones have a true record of negative health impacts.  Just ask me about them or find more information here on Natural Health News.

Once again, Oprah needs to be doing better....

What you don't know CAN hurt you.  SO if you'd like to know more request our EMF Healthy Handout©©

Oprah and Oz: Maybe their answers are missing something

Email This BlogThis! Share to X Share to Facebook

I happened to notice a link to the Oprah show bulletin broad and their Q & A for Dr Oz having to do with vitamin D, Fosamax, cell phones and irregular heart beat.

What stuck me is that one of the queries posted was by a woman who had been told by her doctor that her vitamin D level at 38.4 was good.

Hopefully her doctor tested for 25 OH or Vitamin D3.  If you'd like to know the range for results, please see this excerpt from my recent issue of herbalYODA Says! - If you're not a subscriber, request a copy with your donation to CHI (www.leaflady.org)
" The base level for vitamin D for both adults and children is 50 nanograms/mL If your level is below 50 then you will use it as fast as it is made, and you may be at risk for deficiency. This is more of a concern for people of color, those who do not go in the sun, those who are confined or live in climates where it is darker in winter, and those who wear clothing that covers the entire body.

Blood serum levels above 80 ng/mL allow for reserve storage. Levels above 200 ng/mL are thought to be toxic. The optimal range at all times is between 50 and 80ng/mL for adults and children."
Often you find that today's doctors are remiss in their ability to interpret lab results according to the most current research. Old levels for Vitamin D are 30, and even our own misguided FDA is considering raising the daily intake to 1000 mg.

This lack is virtually universal for thyroid testing, especially made worse because of the failure to order the correct tests.

Irregular heart beat associated with Fosamax may be related to the fluoride content of the drug which has a negative effect on thyroid function.  Thyroid dysfunction is often a symptom of excessive exposure to fluoride, because fluoride displaces iodine which is a key nutrient for a healthy thyroid. Iodine is also displaced by chlorine and bromine (halogens).

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) created by cell phones do now show that there is a alteration of thyroid function.  This can be linked to irregular heart beat either from EMF (especially when exposed to WIFI) or thyroid dysfunction. This also has implications for an increased risk of breast cancer.

You can order both the vitamin D test and thyroid panel, or other tests, from CHI.  And many states allow you to order your own.  We also provide a service that includes interpretation of what lab results mean for your health.

NB: Our upcoming herbalYODA Says! program on BTR for April will be about thyroid.

Dear OPRAH, NO MICROWAVE COOKING PLEASE!

I am saddened by Oprah's promotion of microwave exposure on food. I just hope she makes an effort to stop telling people that microwaving food is just fine and dandy.

And please don't use a microwave to get the last spoonful of almond butter from the bottom of the jar! The fat in almond butter is specifically damaged by microwaves.

Another OPRAH marketing monster

I am not opposed to not taking a seriously looking at the serious problems with diabetes we face in the US today.  It is a serious problem and it deserves a serious discussion and serious action.

There are many factors in the diabetes 1 and 2 equations that were not discussed on the program today and these deserve as much attention as do exercise, nutrition, and proper testing of your blood sugar.

Vaccines are implicated in the rising number of children developing Type 1 diabetes.

The poor quality of food today is a factor in the development of Type 2 diabetes as is the use of artificial sweeteners, over processed food, and high fructose corn syrup.

Other problems are the nutritional deficiencies caused by the diabetes drugs and problems with insulin (the cancer / Lantus connection for example).

A major concern I've had for years is the lack of information provided to people with diabetes about the need to have proper and thorough thyroid and adrenal testing, as well as being provided with information on how Vitamin E prevents neuropathy and how vitamin C prevents retinopathy.  Dr. Oz made not comment on this important information.

Bob Green is again promoting his chemically filled, soy oil artificial spread.  How about half a cup of high quality olive oil sold in glass bottls and 1 stick of unsalted butter.  Butter just isn't as bad as they'd like you to believe.

Greene also is giving out advice on blood sugar testing that isn't even close to what should be done.  Once a day testing isn't adequate!

He's still pushing SOY in the form of Silk  for meals, but take a look at some of the concerns I raised about his endorsments -
http://naturalhealthnews.blogspot.com/2009/01/best-life-whoa-oprah-didnt-bob-tell-you.html

 http://naturalhealthnews.blogspot.com/2007/01/fake-foods-oprah-bob-and-general-mills.html

There isn't inclusion of the natural things that you can do to prevent and reverse diabetes, and no discussion about why some people just cannot follow a vegan diet to get healthy.

So, yes, do exercise, use a better selection of food, watch how much you eat, but get more facts before following this Oprah-hyped plan.  It probably is a good as Heidi Klum and the Diet Coke approach to increasing the risk of heart disease.

And if you'd like to start a food buying club if you are in a poor area with little access to healthy whole food let me know and I'll tell you how.

And please, the next time you have a program on diabetes make sure you note that the highest proportion of people who have diabetes are those who are Native American or of Native American descent.

NOTE: Our parent organization, CHI, offers two nutritional programs, one is informational which you can receive with a donation.  The second is $40 which includes a lengthy questionaire you complete at home which will tell you your metabolic type (1 of 12) based on your autonomic nervous system function.  We also offer nutritional counseling and health coaching.

The Rising Incidence of Cell Phone Tumours

7:43 AM ari sari No comments

US should study WIFI health impact

Cell Phone Towers and Your Health

GQ is just out with a lengthy article about cell phones and your health.  The good news is that the writer,  Christopher Ketcham, is really looking at the history and the science as well as anecdotal data, and he should be applauded.

This follows on the Oprah show aired in my market yesterday where she talked about her campaign to stop people from texting and talking while driving.

I'm often disappointed in Oprah because she does some things in sort of a half-assed way.  In this instance nothing in her campaign addresses the increased risk of breast cancer associated with cell phone use as well as the damage it can do to your thyroid gland, your heart, adrenal glands, kidneys, and your bones.

So Oprah, expand your horizon!

As our long time followers know, we have been writing on the risks of cell phones for about 15 years now.  The research that shows the risks does back to the 1940s.  Ketcham picks up in the 60s and to show how responsible his article is, he includes the work of Dr, Henry Lai from the University of WA.  And he asks, "So why isn't anyone in America doing anything about it?"

My 30-something niece just died of a brain tumour last October.  My daughter who has a PR firm in Seattle is working with an organization that focuses on brain tumour research.  I don't know how my niece developed this tumour but I can only raise the concern about cell phones, microwave ovens and cooking, the use of wifi, digital tv, microwave towers where the cellular antennae are perched and any other factor that I am convinced have a serious impact on health.  I believe this to such a degree that I began teaching programs on this topic for health providers about a decade ago.

Its a touchy issue, politically, as the cell phone companies have paid out a bundle to MOC's (members of Congress) to control this issue their way.  Its reported to be in excess of $8 billion.
"That the cell-phone industry, which last year posted revenues in the hundreds of billions of dollars, has an incentive to shut down research showing the dangers of cell-phone use is not a radical notion."
I have over 100 posts involving EMF here at Natural Health News,  and much more on my web site.  All I ask is that you start waking up to the risk you do to your self - and your health - daily with your cell phone and other EMF generating devices.
In this quote from Ketcham's article, and EPA physicist said, "The Department of Defense didn't like our research because the exposure limits that we might recommend would curtail their activities.", I can't help think of the role HAARP is playing in today's world, and how its very high powered EMF is making havoc.
Washington state had rules affecting employees and EMF exposure in 1978.  The history of suppression of information you had the right to know has systematically been suppressed.  It is past time to get the truth.  Ignore the half truth and faulty studies from the cellular industry, ignore convenience and move in favor of fact.

Another Oprah Faux Pas

UPDATE:  Not Surprising to NHN
No Free Speech for Oprah: A woman who tried to get her story told on the Oprah Winfrey show was told that they could not air her story because they were supported by the pharmacuetical companies. So here is Oprah Winfrey, one of the most influential, wealthy personalities on the planet controlled by the pharmaceutical companies.

UPDATE: Thank you to Shari Roan of the LA Times for kindly responding to my note to her about this situation.

********************************************
I continue to be amazed at the failure of Oprah Winfrey and her staff.

With all of the alleged talent and money available at Harpo Productions one just might think the producers and Oprah just might open up their minds to reach out-of-the-box on "schizophrenia", especially when it comes to drugging children.

Jenny and her parents featured on today's Oprah discuss their situation as how it relates to this very young child taking lithium and clozaril for her condition.

At no time is there even a minuscule mention of natural treatment that is proven in schizophrenia.

The problem for the parents is they probably do not even know that Valencia CA is close to the office of the Safe Harbor Project.

Psychiatric Drug Side Effects Search Engine

And please also refer to Orthomolecular Medicine and especially the work of Abrahm Hoffer, MD.

You may also refer to this website
"Mental Health Care should be held to the ethical creed, "First, Do No Harm" and should be driven by positive patient outcomes, not profit. Psychiatric drugs pose very real health risks including psychosis, worsening depression, diabetes, stroke and sudden death.

Even Jenny's parents are taking antidepressants!  Michael and Susan

It does not have to be like this.  There is real non-drug help for this family.

O, Oprah

Oprah again had a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the children, their parents and the families interviewed on her program today, but she looked the other way.

Not far from Chicago is an excellent researcher who heads an organization that over the years has helped many children, adults and families with many forms of mental illness, including schizophrenia.

At no time during the Oprah show today did this organization get even the slightest mention, nor did Oprah offer any options to these families or her listeners that have clinically established over 50 years ago that schizophrenia is a brain allergy syndrome.

Of course mainstream medicine treats this as a DSM billable situation, even though for many decades psychiatrists have admitted they do not know what schizophrenia.

Now there is also the consideration that there are no new drugs for schizophrenia that are actually approved for use in children, and many of these drugs that are used carry serous black box warnings.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world when we could turn on the Oprah show and see her discussing the known ways that resolve schizophrenia?

If we are to get real health reform, then this may be one of the best places to start.

A Natural Lesson for Hyperhydrosis, Part Two

This topic came up again today on national TV on the Rachel Ray program. Once again nothing in the conversation included natural approaches to balancing the over active sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system.

What did disturb me was the failure to mention that aluminum is associated with Alzheimer's dis-ease and the most effective product from the trial with three Stamford, CT firefighters.

Again we have products that stop the natural function of human physiology.

A word to those involved in this trail, and the discussion may be needed.

A Natural Lesson for Hyperhydrosis
A fellow who works for Oprah as a producer asked Dr. Oz about his sweaty palms today. I was holding my breath that Mehmet just might have offered up a natural and effective treatment that is effective and inexpensive. He didn't.

I was pleased that he opted against the sympathectomy, which he gave as the last option of the three he suggested, including Botox.

And of course there are problems with Botox and the surgery.

I was surprised that he failed to suggest acupuncture which would be a good approach for re-balancing the sympathetic arm of the autonomic nervous system, or a very effective herbal treatment.

It was good that he mentions thyroid and pancreas concerns because these can be involved.

He didn't mention the nutritional approach that re-balances your biochemistry. He did offer that reducing coffee was important. Coffee's caffeine adds stress to the adrenals glands, so add more vitamin B and C throughout each day (these two vitamins help support the adrenal glands).

Naturally speaking, Siberian Ginseng is an effective approach to this problem. We use only properly prepared liquid herbal extracts for the best clinical results.

Junque Journalism

I'm happy to report that I am not alone in my great concern over the current low level of reporting from such writers as Marilyn Marchione and Newsweek's Pat Wingert.

While I often do not support Oprah because she and many of her guests are corporate connected. Bob Green is just one example and he is for artificial sweeteners and obviously GMO foods found in many of his corporate sponsor's foods. This isn't good for your health.

Dr Oz and his buddy Roizen are connected with a program, Real Age, that sells the data collected to outside companies. Oz also isn't really very naturally oriented. He just skims the surface.

The anti-vaccine information presented on Oprah is good. Vaccines are not good for health and they are - more often than not - associated with higher disease rates and sicker children and adults who have had the shots.

Natural Health News tries to provide a more balanced source of information so you can think about the pap that's thrown to you by mass media.

Here's a good review of just how bad this Newsweek junque article is -

"Newsweek, a magazine described as “an infomercial masquerading as medical news” and “an example of corruption in journalism" has again demonstrated a new low in garbage journalism with this deceptive and misleading article which promotes a drug industry agenda...."

CW Randolph MD comments on the Newsweek attack article: "Multiple medical studies have linked synthetic hormone replacement therapies, such Premarin and Prempro, to health risks such as breast and uterine cancers, heart attack, stroke. Meanwhile, recent medical research and multiple clinical studies validate the safety and efficacy of bioidentical hormone replacement therapies."

Real Age? Real Cagey...

7:33 AM ari sari No comments

Oprah's doctors, Oz and Roizen, are linked to RealAge, an on-line actuarial questionnaire that evaluates your lifestyle to give you an age that reflects how healthy your choices are. You may end up older or younger than your chronological age as a result of their quiz.

I took it once when they first published it and came out about 20 years younger than my chronological age.

Then along came one of their daily facts I disagreed with, and so did the science.

Do you think they would correct the error of their ways? No way, Jose!

Now it appears - according to some data dug up by Public Citizen, that the folks who bring you the RealAge questionnaire also sell your info and email to pharmaceutical companies.

A word to the wise: You'd better skip this test.

Sprint Teams with Oprah

I own a SPRINT PCS phone and I've had one since about 1995. Because it is owned by the 501c3 organization that sponsors Natural Health News, no tax is supposed to be billed to our account.

I can't tell you how many times I have approached SPRINT on this issue. And it comes and goes.

I've applied to SPRINT for a grant to cover our very limited use of the service, but to no avail.

Gee wouldn't it be great to get a brand new top of the line phone and three months service like the promo on Oprah today for all the people in her audience. None with a non-profit group.

And perhaps along with that, Dan Hesse will give all those women who were screaming about this freebie, a copy of my article, based on science, that includes the breast cancer risk of cell phones.

Best Life? Whoa Oprah, didn't Bob tell you ?

UPDATE: 8 January - Make your own healthy salad dressing:
Oil and Vinegar HERB dressing
4 oz. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 oz. Balsamic Vinegar
2 tsp. white or shiro miso (optional)
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
1/2 tsp. vegetable broth powder (Gayelord Hauser's)
2 TBSP. finely chopped fresh dill herb
2 TBSP. finely chopped fresh basil herb
2 TBSP. finely chopped fresh chives
You can use Dijon mustard and omit the herbs. You can use red wine vinegar in place of balsamic vinegar. There are manu options, create your own distinctive blend. Salt and Pepper to taste with freshly ground salt and pepper.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: 6 January - No high fructose corn syrup warns Dr. OZ on Oprah today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a New Year and of course now it the time you are bombarded with fitness, diet and lifestyle advertising and programming.

I always think this is a little too much and a little too soon to be deluged with all this information. Maybe it is trying to put you on a guilt trip because you over indulged too much during the holiday season. I hope you don't fall prey to it.

About one year ago I posted an article here at Natural Health News about fake foods. I did so because Oprah and her trainer Bob Greene get a lot of free press and backing from major corporate advertising for the products signed up in their plan.

This year there is a new plan and a new push to get you to join in, but little telling you just how some of this year's fake foods might not be so healthy for you.

Today on Oprah we heard a lot about this and about how Oprah has her thyroid under control. I surely hope she isn't on Synthroid and I wonder how it is that who ever is her doctor overlooked her adrenal stress.

One thing she has "right" is that it isn't so much the food, it is really the emotions behind what is going on in your life and what that does to your physiology. She is also correct about the fact that you really do need to exercise, and weight training is more important as you age. Your fitness program has to be adjusted as you grow and so does the way you eat and what you eat.

Now it brings me back to where I was last year - Oprah, Bob and Fake Foods.

And here goes my run down -

These foods are selected from the list because they are highly processed foods or contain ingredients that have negative impact on health

The ad includes this data - "Foods carrying the seal fit right into the Best Life way of eating. They contain one or more of the following nutritious ingredients: whole grains, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and other essential nutrients."

Bob Greene may approve the foods in this plan, and the money he gets from endorsements but I don't and I'll tell you why -

Whole grains are good but not if they are genetically engineered, over processed or not organic.

Healthy fats do not include Smart Balance margarine and as you will note in other articles on Natural Health News, plant sterols are generally soy and canola oil, genetically modified and have a negative impact on vitamins such as diminishing beat carotene.

Fiber is good but not Benefiber. Benefiber is owned by Novartis, an international pharmaceutical company. Benefiber is Guar Gum, which has not been FDA approved for this use but then Novartis is Novartis. Now a new active ingredient is wheat dextrin, yet the claim is gluten free. Novartis is also that company that brought you the demeaning to women ad for their IBS drug - Zelnorm - that was taken off the market.

Cereals - just refer to my article on Cereal in the Box

Nestle's Pure Life Fruit Water with Splenda
Nestle is promoting this water to schools and has a label campaign. Be wary of Splenda, and read more about the dangers of this insecticide promoted as a sweetener that is known to have serious health effects, seizure being just one.

BetternEggs Egg whites at 98%, water, plus the following chemicals -natural flavors, sodium hexametaphosphate, guar gum, xanthan gum

Flat out - hard to find information on the ingredients but one site states that they contain sugar and soy flour. This brand is also endorsing Lance Armstrong's venture, but recall that soy is an endocrine disruptor and may influence cancer.

Hellman's Best Foods Mayonnaise - now made with soy oil

Wishbone - base is usually canola oil (GMO and toxic to the liver) although some now state olive oil.

Edys Fruit bars - I picked Orange and Cream for an example - INGREDIENTS: skim milk, water, sugar, orange juice concentrate, cream, corn syrup, maltodextrin, whey, stabilizer (microcrystalline cellulose, mono and diglycerides, guar gum, cellulose gum, carrageenan, locust bean gum, polysorbate 80, dextrose), natural flavors, citric acid, orange pulp, ascorbic acid, annatto color, turmeric color

Lean Cuisine - microwaved food causes nutritional depletion and elevated cholesterol, read more here -

Soy milk - Silk is the most advertised brand you can find. Silk is associated with the factory farm brand of "organic" milk from Horizon (Dean Foods). Silk is loaded with thickeners including carrageenan that is toxic and sugar. Soy milk suppresses your thyroid gland and is estrogenic so not good if you have a concern for hormone related breast cancer.

Skinny Cow - cones are made from skim milk, cone [wheat flour, sugar, palm oil, soy lecithin, salt], sugar, corn syrup, cone coating [sugar, coconut oil, salatrim, cocoa, soy lecithin, vanillin-artificial flavor], fudge topping [high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, cocoa processed with alkali, sugar, modified corn starch, salt, mono and diglycerides, vanilla, natural flavor, vanillin-artificial flavor], water, cocoa processed with alkali, whey protein, polydextrose, fructan (dietary fiber), stabilizer [microcrystalline cellulose, cellulose gum, mono and diglycerides, locust bean gum, calcium sulfate, polysorbate 80, carrageenan], vitamin A palmitate

Slim Fast - Optima as an example - Fat free milk, water, sugar, cocoa, canola oil, fructose, calcium caseinate, gum arabic, cellulose gel, hydrogenated soy oil, mono and diglycerides, potassium phosphate, soya lecithin, cellulose gum, carrageenan, artificial flavor, isolated soy protein, maltodextrin, Contains Sucralose and Acesulfame K, dextrose, potassium carrageenan, citric acid, sodium citrate. (I'll put low glycemic, chocolate, high fiber, protein based, blood sugar balancing shake mix I use up against Slim Fast's pap any day.)

Most of the products contain synthetic vitamins which are inexpensive and not well absorbed.

Splenda (sucralose) and Aspartame make you gain weight just like high fructose corn syrup. Somehow all of these fake foods being promoted as the "Best Life" partners leave a lot to be desired. But of course this is my opinion, and I really wish people get it.

My point is that getting in shape and maintaining a healthy weight (for you) is very important for your health. One way to undermine all this hard work is to ingest foods full of artificial sweeteners and other ingredients that - over time - undermine your efforts and your health.

I've been a student of nutrition since the 1960s. I was fortunate enough to have in depth nutrition education as part of my college experience. I haven't stopped reading about and researching this subject. My best advice is to use organic, whole foods, and real foods that are not full of additives and preservatives.

And here are some of my comments on the new Oprah and Bob Fake Food Folly.

First let me start by saying that dark chocolate is a very good supplement for health. I am not sure I would promote candy bars to achieve this but that is based on my concern over the sugar and fat in the candy. A better suggestion would be to have a quality brand (NOT YOPLAIT)of plain or vanilla yoghurt with a tablespoon of organic cocoa powder or cacao nibs stirred in. You will be amazed at just how good this is, even without sweeteners.(Contact us if you'd like to order our healthy chocolate options.)

A few years ago Hershey's pushed its shareholders to approve the use of genetically modified ingredients such as cocoa and beet sugar. In some countries the GMO ingredients are not used but they are in the US. Genetically modified foods like beet sugar grown with Monsanto's Round-Up. Read more...

What you may not know is that processed foods containing inorganic phosphates could be making you sick. This study also suggests that dietary changes to avoid these chemical additives may play an important role in cancer treatment. Women seem prone to developing lung cancer, and of course we all know of the massive campaign-in-pink that hasn't found the 'cure'.

In research reported in the January issue of American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, published by the American Thoracic Society, scientists from Seoul National University conclude that a diet high in inorganic phosphates, found in a host of processed foods including meats, cheeses, beverages, and bakery products, might spur the growth of lung cancer. Further the researchers suggest the food additive may contribute to the development of malignancies in people predisposed to, or already diagnosed with cancer.

Soy and Canola oils, passed off as "plant sterols" now seem to deplete other necessary nutrients. Soy is a negative food, it is often genetically modified. Canola is a trans fat because of the processing and it is toxic to your liver.

And, while this is no means complete, I thought I'd let you know that Polysorbte 80 has been connected with infertility.

Fake Foods: Oprah, Bob and General Mills

Maybe you remember when the Texas cattle ranchers sued Oprah after she discussed beef raising and cattle processing on her show some years back.

simply4health supplements - our complete line of vitamins, minerals, herbs, supplements...

Maybe you don't remember, but in either case now it looks like Oprah better round up Dr. Phil and her attorneys and go at it again.

First I guess she should go after the 'Dr. Phil' food bar. You know, the one loaded with not only high fructose corn syrup, but neurotoxic artificial sweeteners.

Then with both pistols loaded and a quick draw motion Oprah can blast the General Mills approach to health.

Sorry Bob Greene, you fail the test too.

Now before you all run out and get the ingredients for Oprah's smoothie and Bob Greene's diet, maybe you'd want to read what is in just two of the products being hawked by General Mills for this promotion.

8th Continent Soy Milk contains: Soymilk (Water, Soy Protein, Soybean Oil, Calcium
Phosphate), Sugar, Fructose, Potassium Citrate, Sodium Polyphosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Soy Lecithin, Salt, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Carrageenan, Xanthan Gum, Sucralose, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin A (Palmitate), Vitamin D2, Vitamin B12.

Yoplait contains: nonfat milk, high fructose corn syrup, (blackberries in this, the blackberry version), modified corn starch, whey protein concentrate, kosher gelatin, citric acid, tricalcium phosphate, natural flavor, aspartame, potassium sorbate, RED # 40, vitamin A acetate, Blue #1, Vitamin D3.

Cheerios always have been a bit too high in sodium for my taste, but choosing the cold cereal routine can always help you keep up your quick-sugar fix.

And then there is the salad spray that has Oprah 'ready to die for'. It's that one in the cute little plastic spritzer bottle. Read the label and there it is - that liver-toxic canola oil. It's the one that in processing is exposed to cancer-causing benzene to keep the machines running and becomes a trans-fat at the end of the process.

Canola and soy are two of the most genetically modified and allergenic foods we have thanks to ADM.

Soy is known to suppress thyroid function, just another one of those scientific facts that promote hormone imbalance. However, I suppose you think you need it to overcome the bone health risks from phosphates.

But then you have to bet that General Mills is operating from the perspective that shopper's won't ever read the labels and look up what all the chemicals are and the health risks involved through ingesting them.

Read about Carrageenan here, that natural seaweed made toxic by processing to use in food as a thickener.

Get a book about vitamins and learn that D2 is the kind that doesn't absorb well and can be toxic. D3 is the one that works.

Get a nutrition book not written by a dietitian of funded by USDA and learn that you need fat to absorb calcium, so you need 2% milk at the very minimum.

High fructose corn syrup you say? Yup! the one that passes directly into your blood stream and is connected with developing diabetes. And corn again, one of those high pesticide and allergy causing foods. You've got added sugar from fructose too; Oh, my...

And I suppose Oprah and Bob don't have an expert neurosurgeon on their team either to tell you that mixing sucralose (the DDT-like substance marketed as Splenda) and aspartame (or acesulfameK) is highly risky. Try this for more on this combo.

I do hope this will make you think, and if you can't find out more about food, skip the Red #40 and shoot us an email with your question. Or get great nutrition with a Vita-Mix
