Folks who are in the midst of the fields of exposure may be helped by taking kelp or iodine tablets daily in an effort to protect endocrine and immune function.

Kelp and Iodine are controversial, but many holistic physicians are using this type of treatment. Some researchers, however, advise that kelp can contain fluoride, so it may be a 'Catch 22'. The benefit may outweigh the risk is this situation.

Water soluble iodine or natural nutritional protein bound iodine tablets are generally more effective and safer than Potassium Iodide.

Diabetes in this case may develop from loss of function of the thyroid gland, which in turn effects function of all other endocrine glands, including the pancreas. High quality digestive enzymes and other natural pancreatic support may be helpful.

Dry Skin Brushing follow with a 30 minute tub of hot water with 4 to 5 pounds of pure sea salt and 1-2 cups of miso broth added. Drink 1-cup miso broth while soaking for thirty minutes, Finish with a cool shower.

Sea salt and Baking soda baths: 50/50 mix - helpful to re-balance the body after exposure to radiation.

Some treatments can be adapted for use in the field.

Red Clover and Chaparral Tea helps cleanse the blood, and it seems to benefit lymphoma type reactions.

Dandelion herb helps the liver and kidneys. It is high in minerals and especially vitamin A. Any help to these organs of elimination is beneficial. Dandelion root is especially helpful to keep blood sugar balanced.

Eleuthero or what is called Siberian ginseng helps support the adrenal glands. Other help for these glands are vitamin C and bee pollen. These glands are the 'fight or flight' center of your body and are often exhausted in stress.

Alfalfa and spirulina may also be good to use for general support.

Five Flower Remedy and Yarrow Environmental Formula are flower essence remedies that help in anxiety and panic (Five Flower) and environmental over exposure (YES).

Thyroid testing is an important diagnostic tool. Sadly most physicians do not order the correct set of tests to thoroughly evaluate thyroid function. This panel should at least be - ultrasensitive TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. One cannot accurately 'infer' the T3 level from TSH and/or T4 as many doctors claim. If immune dis-orders such as lupus and others are suspected then a reverse T3 is necessary (rT3). Other tests may be needed.

The current range for TSH, since 2003, is 0.3 - 3.0. The optimal rage is 1.5 to 2. If the reading is high you tend to have low thyroid, if opposite you tend to have hyperthyroid. Home kits for thyroid evaluations are available through my office. Sweden seems to have lowered this range upper limit to 2.5.

Avoid any products containing aspartame, acesulfame K and sucralose.

Please know that each individual responds to this type of environmental trauma differently. For the best results it is important to treat each person accordingly, and in relation to their symptoms.

The Usefulness of Iodine

Originally posted 4/11/08

Something already exists to help protect you from radiation, and it has been around for a very long time. It is often avoided in allopathic medicine these days because docs think you might want to take too much, which could be harmful. Seems that is a funny assumption because most people aren't interested in doing more harm to themselves that doctors already do with radiation.

A note to women on this issues is important because screening mammography is just more radiation to promote breast cancer, and isn't the rate going up, instead of getting better?

This rather inexpensive protection would be a boon to soldiers or people exposed to depleted uranium.

The substance I refer to is called Iodine. Famous as Lugol's solution, it is also a very effective antimicrobial. Today, in most US states, Lugol's requires a prescription. It may be more available in other countries, or from veterinary supply stores.

Potassium Iodide is another form as is protein bound iodine.

This can also be very useful in the prevention or treatment of dementia.

I always encourage people to keep this health-protecting remedy on hand. Iodine containing products, (ask about Lugol's) can be ordered from us.

New drug protects against radiation damage: study Fri Apr 11, 2008

Researchers have developed a new drug that can protect healthy cells and bone marrow against anti-cancer radiation therapy and maybe even against the effects of a nuclear bomb, a study has shown.

While radiation therapy is used effectively to destroy cancerous tumors, it can have a devastating effect on healthy cells, noted the study published in the April 11 edition of the American review Science.

But a new drug protects gastrointestinal cells and bone marrow in mice and monkeys from radiation without reducing the treatment's effectiveness, lead author Lyudmila Burdelya of New York state's Roswell Park Cancer Institute said.

Dr Richard Kolesnick, of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, said the research represented "a breakthrough in an issue that has challenged the scientific community."

Dr Preet Chaudhary, an oncologist at the University of Pennsylvania, said the work could have wide implications for the fight against cancer.

The drug, CBLB502, works by activating a well-known molecular pathway that some cancer cells use to stave off cell death, Burdelya and colleagues said.

A single dose given to the animals shortly before receiving radiation therapy significantly reduced the radiation damage caused to bone marrow and gastrointestinal cells and prolonged the animals' survival, the researchers said.

They said the drug might also be a useful protection against radiation exposure from a nuclear plant malfunction or nuclear bomb, adding that clinical trials on humans could begin this summer.

Vaccines Ultimately Not Effective

“There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway.”-

J. Anthony Morris, MD (former FDA Chief Vaccine Control Officer)

PLEASE remember this when you are listening to Bill Gates' current PR spots for vaccines.  Gates has publicly stated that vaccines are good for population control.

In 1926 the AMA announced it was aware of neurological damage caused by vaccines, especially the pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine (DPT today).

Polio vaccine can cause cancer and other illnesses, including polio.

Iodine was successfully used in Canada in the 1940s and 50s to cure polio.

'Stinky' Drywall Imported From China Raises Health And Safety Concerns

UPDATE: 14 April -
Coal sludge and health risks apply to dry wall from China.
Thank you to Scott Patterson for letting me post his comments. He is in the business of home inspection.
Toxic Chinese Drywall might be in your home!

Over the past few months, owners of newer homes nationwide have been complaining of drywall that smells like rotten eggs. In several cases, they have had to leave their home because the smell was so bad. In addition to the putrid smell, many homeowners have reported problems with air conditioning and other systems that are likely related to the defective Chinese drywall. This is being called the next EIFS like disaster in the real estate market!

Many have spent hundreds and even thousands of dollars - to have air conditioning, pipes and wiring repaired. Usually, drywall is manufactured in the United States, but a shortage between 2004 and 2006 prompted many builders to buy drywall from China.

Most of the reported problems stem from drywall imported from China during the construction boom years of 2004-2005. Florida and the Gulf Coast states have been the first to report and have issue with this drywall showing up but it also showing up in non-coastal areas.

Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co. Ltd. of China, a subsidiary of German-based manufacturer Knauf, is the company at the focus of these drywall problems. If your newer home smells like sulfur or rotten eggs, you may have defective Chinese drywall. The problem is coming from coal ash that was mixed into the gypsum drywall compound. It appears that China was attempting to get rid of their coal ash problems by mixing it with the drywall compound. When the drywall is exposed to moisture, such as high humidity a chemical reaction starts. The result of this reaction is the production of Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfuric acid gas. This is the rotten egg smell that is present with the drywall.

This drywall is responsible for the destruction of the copper coils in HVAC units in the homes that it has been installed in. The corrosive off gassing is also responsible for damaging many other components in the homes from the copper electrical to the nails and screws that are holding everything together in the home.

If you think that you might have Chinese Drywall, you should contact a reputable home inspector who is familiar with this problem. If you need help locating an inspector just give me a call and I might know of a person in your area. As this new discovery is just starting to rear its ugly head, many are not aware of this problem. UPDATE: 2 January, 2009 - The Christian Science Monitor has a very good article on this situation that points out the lax requirements dating back the the corporate influence in the Clinton Administration. Lax EPA regulations continued during the outgoing Bush regime. One issue similar to the Cataldo Mission toxic site is a waste repository being built with no liner. Obviously this is a major issue needing to be addressed by the newly elected administration.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The coal sludge ponds that failed, as reported in media reports recently, raise health issues. It is good to see that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is planning to test the water in the area hit by this flood of waste. And certainly it seems as if the damage done to peoples homes and lives is being addressed.

I work with a group that is in community that has been the victim of mine waste for over 100 years. The information I develop for them on health is shared with other groups who are dealing with the impact of mining waste.

In the news stories there has been mention that the coal waste is radioactive. Coal waste also leaves arsenic in the water as well as the possibility for other heavy metal leaching.

TVA would be well advised to supply all those harmed in this tragedy with high quality vitamin C and iodine products. Additionally, a very specific product containing both vitamin C and specialized essences of garlic (equal to 35 cloves of the full spectrum of garlic's benefits) is appropriate.

Vitamin C is an excellent chelator and will help remove heavy metal waste from the body. Garlic is a heavy metal chelator as well and it offers other protective support for health. Iodine, such as Iosol or professional products like Prolamine Iodine, even adding the sea vegetables to one's diet, works to reduce the impact of radioactivity.

Spill may have permanently altered Tenn. communityBy KRISTIN M. HALL, Associated Press Writer Kristin M. Hall, Associated Press Writer Tue Dec 30, 3:17 am ET

KINGSTON, Tenn. – A week after more than a billion gallons of coal ash broke through a retention pond dike and roared into a small river cove, the landscape has turned into a muddy pit that's little like the scenic spot that attracted people to live here.

The Emory River is clogged with giant chunks of gray ash sticking out of the water and trees ripped out by their roots and washed downstream during the Dec. 22 disaster. Ducks float in a film of sand-like residue on the surface. Dozens of pieces of heavy equipment are digging along the river to try to clean it of coal ash.

The Kingston Steam Plant, a coal-fired power plant operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, sits on the confluence of two rivers, about 35 miles west of Knoxville.

The deluge destroyed three houses, displaced a dozen families and damaged 42 parcels of land, but there were no serious injuries.

There are 62 pieces of heavy machinery slowly gathering up the spilled ash from residential roads, railroad tracks and the river, plant manager Ron Hall said Monday.

But no one at TVA can say how long the cleanup will take and how thorough the restoration can be.

"It's almost like someone dying, because it's so permanent," said Crystell Flinn, whose home was swept away.

Hall said workers will pull the sludge out of the river using barges and skimmers, and dump trucks will carry it to a different site at the plant. But the material won't return to the large riverside retention ponds still there.

"We will not likely put in wet ash ponds again, even though they have shown to be structurally integral," TVA environmental executive Anda Ray said Monday. "We are looking at options for what to do long term for that ash disposal, but there are dry ash pond technologies."

In the days after the spill, officials are finding more reasons to be concerned about the possible harmful long-term effects. Federal officials on Monday cautioned residents who use private wells or springs to stop drinking the water.

But the area isn't densely populated, and TVA said that no more than four wells are in the spill area.

Samples taken near the spill slightly exceed drinking water standards for toxic substances, and arsenic in one sample was higher than the maximum level allowed for drinking water, according to a press release from TVA, the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies.

Federal officials should have tests on the affected wells sometime this week.

"I think they (the wells) were beyond the actual slide point of the material," EPA spokeswoman Laura Niles said. "There shouldn't be direct impact, but that's why they are sampling."

Authorities have said the municipal water supply is safe to drink.

Arsenic occurs naturally in the environment, but elevated levels can cause ailments ranging from nausea to partial paralysis, and long-term exposure has been linked to several types of cancer, according to the EPA.

Ray said arsenic levels were high because of the type of measurement that the EPA used, which included soil mixed in with water.

"Those samples were not dissolved arsenic," Ray said. "The dissolved arsenic, which is what you look at for drinking water samples, are undetectable in all the cases. The elevated arsenic that the EPA is referring to is the data that we collected when it was stirred up. It is routinely filtered out through all water treatment plants."

Environmental concerns could shift when the sludge containing the fly ash, a fine powdery material, dries out. The EPA and TVA have begun air monitoring and on Monday advised people to avoid activities that could stir up dust, such as children or pets playing outside.

The dust can contain metals, including arsenic, that irritate the skin and can aggravate pre-existing conditions like asthma, Niles said.

The EPA recommends that anyone exposed to the dust should wash thoroughly with soap and water and wash the affected clothes separately from other garments.

Ray said TVA will start installing sprinkler systems in areas where the ash has dried out to keep it moist.

Knoxville-based TVA supplies electricity to Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

Breast Health Awareness Education and Advocacy Campaign

Something you won't learn from mainstream medicine

Continuing to advocate and educate during our Breast Health Awareness campaign

Iodine is extremely important for breast health and health in general. If you happen to live in northern latitudes it is much more important as well as if you live in US western states bordering with Canada. In this area low selenium levels in the soil and food impact thyroid health because selenium helps make iodine work.

Other risks include environmental exposure, especially to other halides like chlorine and fluoride (check your drinking water) as these two partners block iodine from doing its job to feed your thyroid gland.

One well known Canadian physician, Donald Derry MD, lost his license because he was curing breast cancer without chemo and radiation, but using natural methods including iodine.

Here another MD, well respected for his opinion on iodine, explains further -
Breast Health Iodine and Other Nutrients Play a Crucial Role
By Jorge D. Flechas M.D., M.P.H.
Of all the cancers women develop, 29 percent are breast cancer. By age 25, 1 in 19,608 women will develop breast cancer. By age 50, this number changes to a shocking 1 in 50 and by age 75 an even more dismal statistic: 1 in 11. In a total lifetime, one woman in 8 will develop breast cancer.

In January 2005, cancer became the leading cause of death in the United States. Each year about 211,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in the USA. The number of new breast cancer cases increased from 82 per 100,000 women in 1973 to 195 per 100,000 women in 2000. The main cause of death prior to that was heart disease. The estimated death rate from breast cancer is 40,600: 40,200 females and 400 males.

Much is said in the public media about a genetic link with this cancer. Yet, genetics play only a small role in the development of breast cancer — less than 7 percent. In the September 8, 2006 issue of USA TODAY one of the lead articles was on Killer Cancer Genes ID’d. It mentioned that 122 breast cancer-causing genes have been identified. The scientist quoted in the article mentioned that we may not be able to tackle all the genes in a tumor but that we may have to work on silencing the cancer-causing genes. Doctors in the future may find that silencing even one of these genes could be enough to keep a tumor in check or kill it. They mention in the article that treatments could be a decade or more to develop.

Yet, the technology for tomorrow is here today in the supplements we have at our disposal. For example, methylation of DNA and gene silencing are affected by nutrition. Many articles exist on silencing genes and how the use of methyl-folic acid, methyl-vitamin B12, selenium, trimethylglycine powder and zinc help to methylate the DNA.

Breast Cancer Risk Factors
Many breast cancer risk factors have been identified such as a high-fat diet, low-fiber diet, tobacco use, and alcohol use. These risk factors can be modified by an individual. There are other factors that are mostly out of a woman’s control. The longer a woman is exposed to estrogen in her body, for example, the higher her risk. This would include early age at menarche, late age at menopause, long-term use of birth control pills and nulliparity (never having given birth). There seems to be a group of women whose use of birth control pills for more that 4 years puts them at higher risk before age 45. Women who take thyroid hormone are also at higher risk for developing breast cancer.1 Conversely, a lower risk for breast cancer is seen in women who are late in age at menarche, early age at menopause, and early age at first pregnancy.

Fibrocystic Breasts
In the New England Journal of Medicine, July 22, 2005 issue, there was a lead article showing that benign breast changes in women are associated with breast cancer. Benign breast changes is a new term for what we have called fibrocystic breast disease (FBD) in the past. FBD is currently affecting about 84 percent of the female population in North America.2 FBD is a misnomer because the medical problem is not a disease in the strictest sense. It is more a problem of cyclic breast pain that is associated with the menstrual cycle. In some patients the breast pain is seen daily, regardless of their menstrual cycle. Tissue biopsy for these benign breast changes that do grow larger are called proliferative lesions and if they do not grow they are called non-proliferative lesions.

Non-proliferative lesions (non-growers) can include cyst of the breast, radial scars, apocrine cells which generally make up sweat glands—the breasts are classified as a modified sweat gland—fibroadenoma, and hyperplastic cells that are normal in appearance under the microscope but are more numerous than usual. Proliferative lesions with normal cells are called sclerosing adenosis, which have a slightly increased risk (1.5 to 2 times). There are proliferative lesions with abnormal or atypical cells that are called hyperplasia—high degree with a moderate increased risk of breast cancer of (4 to 5 times), lobular neoplasia and intraductal papilloma. As a rule in medicine, the more abnormal cells look under the microscope, i.e., the more atypical the cells look, the higher the risk of cancer being present.

Iodine’s Supportive Role
Back in the early 1990s it was noted that patients who had iodine deficiency had associated benign breast changes. By giving these patient’s iodine the breast changes that were present would regress.2 It had been noticed a few years earlier that in animal studies, where the animal had been denied access to iodine, the animals developed benign breast changes like humans.3-5 In animal studies, researchers have been able to produce breast cancer in animals by depriving them of iodine.4

In my own personal medical practice I have literally seen the regression of cysts, nodules, scar tissue, and painful breast with the use of 50 mg of Iodoral® per day for 2-3 years. The breast pain goes away in just a few weeks, but the cyst/cysts, scar tissue and breast nodules take up to 2 to 3 years to resolve. On mammograms I have seen a 50 to 80 percent reduction in the scar tissue present in the breast. Studies are needed to show via biopsy that the many different types of FBD will regress with iodine supplementation.

Before starting on iodine therapy, a patient should have their thyroid hormone values investigated. A doctor should check the size of the thyroid for enlargement and or nodules. An iodine-loading test should also be done prior to starting iodine therapy to establish the need for iodine therapy. In this test the patient is given 50 mg of iodine and a 24-hour urine test is then collected. The iodine level in the urine is measured. The more saturated the body is with iodine the higher the level of iodine excreted. The more saturated the body is, the less breast abnormalities have been seen. The test is repeated at 3 months to document increasing saturation. If saturation is not occurring then further investigation is called for to find out why saturation isn’t happening.

Additional Support
Several other nutrients/hormones are also important to breast health and can be used in conjunction with Iodoral. DIM (diindolylmethane), the nutrient derived from cruciferous vegetables, for example, is influential in helping the body metabolize estrogen. DIM has been shown to change the way estrogen is metabolized. Metabolism of the natural estrogen estradiol occurs via one of two pathways. The tumor enhancer metabolic pathway, 16 alpha-hydroxylation, is elevated in patients with breast and endometrial cancer and in those at increased risk of such cancers. This increased 16 alpha-hydroxylation activity has been shown to precede clinical evidence of cancer, and it represents a significant risk factor for developing estrogen-dependent tumors.

Conversely, when estrogen veers away from the 16-alpha pathway and takes another route out of the body, the incidence of cancer decreases. This alternate route, which acts as a tumor suppressor metabolic pathway, is called 2-hydroxylation, a process that transforms estrogen into 2-hydroxyestrone (20HEI), an antiestrogen. Healthy individuals not at risk for breast or endometrial cancer bypass the 16-alpha route and instead metabolize estrogen through this preferable pathway. DIM signals the body to metabolize estrogen via the tumor suppressor 2-hydroxylation pathway.

In addition to this more well known estrogen-related mechanism of action of DIM, recent research also indicates that DIM can prevent angiogenesis, the process by which new blood vessels develop. Cancer cells use the development of new blood vessels to spread throughout the body. In mice, DIM inhibited angiogenesis by up to 76 percent.6 In addition, in mice implanted with human breast cancer cells, tumor growth was inhibited by 64 percent in animals treated with DIM.6

Another means of supporting breast health is by using natural progesterone cream. A syndrome known as Estrogen Dominance is prevalent in women, especially postmenopausal women. According to progesterone researcher Dr. John Lee, estrogen unopposed by progesterone results in a number of adverse effects including painful breasts, fibrocystic breast disease, and breast cancer.

Estrogen dominance usually occurs at menopause, when progesterone production falls to approximately 1 percent of its pre-menopausal level. At this time, the production of estrogen falls to about 50 percent of its pre-menopausal levels. This dramatically alters the estrogen: progesterone ratio, causing estrogen to become toxic without progesterone to oppose it. As a result, the risks for breast and uterine cancer and fibrocystic breast disease increase.7 Therefore, progesterone also has a crucial role to play in maintaining breast health.

Vitamin D is another breast-supportive nutrient. Women who have mutations in their vitamin D receptor gene are nearly twice as likely to develop breast cancer compared to women who do not have the mutation. The vitamin D receptor gene controls the action of vitamin D in the body. Scientists have found that Caucasian women with certain versions of this gene not only have an increased risk of breast cancer but also may suffer from a more aggressive form of the disease if it spreads. The results suggest that vitamin D does indeed play a part in protecting the body against breast cancer, as past studies indicate.

Five to ten percent of breast cancer cases are due to already established gene mutations such as BRCA1. However, the underlying cause of breast cancer in women who do not have this gene and have no family history of the disease has remained a mystery. The study suggests that the mutation in the Vitamin D receptor gene may have a role to play in disease development in women who would not ordinarily be expected to develop the disease.8

Polio Vaccine Backfires in Nigeria; It Can Be Cured

In Canada, in the 40s, 50s, 60s, when polio was a major public health concern, MDs were curing it with iodine. This surely is a very inexpensive way to address this crisis currently if one could get the information to the right place.

People in the US who did receive live vaccine, just as the one currently creating the problem in Africa, have died or now, years later, live with post-polio syndrome or other severe diseases known to be related to the vaccine.

This information is important to in regard to the current flu situation. Surely it is safer than an untested vaccine when the government provides a risk free status to the manufacturers.

Looks like instant replay...
Polio surge in Nigeria after vaccine virus mutates
LONDON (AP) — Polio, a dreaded paralyzing disease stamped out in the industrialized world, is spreading in Nigeria despite efforts to stamp it out. And health officials say in some cases, it's caused by the vaccine used to fight it.

In July, the World Health Organization issued a warning that this vaccine-spread virus might extend beyond Africa. So far, 124 Nigerian children have been paralyzed this year — about twice those afflicted in 2008.

The polio problem is just the latest challenge to global health authorities trying to convince wary citizens that vaccines can save them from dreaded disease. For years, myths have abounded about vaccines — that they were the Western world's plan to sterilize Africans or give them AIDS. The sad polio reality fuels misguided fears and underscores the challenges authorities face using a flawed vaccine. complete article

Recently I've been doing some product reviews as I may have mentioned in other posts. I set high standards years ago, even before I formed the organization that sponsors Natural Health News. I think it is an important concept to maintain as it has a lot to do with product integrity, which sadly to say, is not always prevalent today.

This particular product is something to keep in mind, and to keep in your medicine chest, only because it offers so many benefits. Keep in mind too that this element does not work alone.

For protection from radiation, to keep your immune health and metabolism in top shape and to offset the ravages of fluoride then consider this.

Iodine - A Review by "the leaflady"

W.H. Auden has said that "Likewise, a medicine that was once a noble craft has fallen into a blandly standardized one-size-fits-all format; a medicine that once considered and addressed the vagaries of each individual in its equations now only listens and responds to the standard average dialect of pooled data:
What our bodies are trying to say, for each one Talks in a local Dialect of its own that can alter during Its lifetime."

The necessity of Iodine for Health has been well established in both medicine and natural health care for numerous decades.

More recently, because of the impact of water fluoridation, increased exposure to heavy metal contamination, herbicides, pesticides and radioactive pollution, as well as low levels of selenium in soil where crops are grown, the need for iodine in the daily diet is crucial.

While the current US government limits on iodine intake (RDI) is extremely low, at 0.15 mg. or 150 mcg. daily, the best levels seem to be equal to the standard amount of iodine ingested by the Japanese at about 14 mg.; the best health range for iodine being between 13 - 38 mg.

Iodine serves many functions for health, and it is activated in the body by selenium. Because many crops are grown in areas where low selenium soils are prevalent, iodine supplementation is very useful.

Here at CHI we recently spent some time evaluation an product known as Nascent Iodine. Nascent Iodine is similar to the form of iodine used by Edgar Cayce and is noted in his readings.

Over several weeks I enlisted the cooperation of three people I know who can benefit from iodine supplementation. One is a young woman with Down Syndrome, the second is a woman with a history of goiter and migraine, and the third is a natural health professional colleague of mine.

The feedback received, as compared to the results from kelp supplementation by the first two users was very good. Both felt better energy levels and better digestion. One of the users had a slight gum infection which rapidly cleared up. None in the test made any note of odor or no burping following the use of Nascent Iodine.

Our natural health organization has for many years assisted people with iodine products. We now highly endorse the use of Nascent Iodine.

Because of the work of Guy Abraham MD, a new test is now available to your iodine status.

If you would like more information about the uses and benefits of iodine please contact us. We can also help you with obtaining Nascent Iodine and the Iodine test.

Because March is Women's Health Month, the following information about iodine for health is important: In 1976, JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) reported that if women experience Iodine deficiency and are prescribed T4 thyroid medication (Synthroid & Levoxyl), T4 medication further increases their risk for Breast Cancer.

Nascent Iodine, containing the full complement of iodine substrates, may be helpful to those using this medication.

Pregnancy and Nutrition

We take a very strong stand against the use of anti-depressants in pregnancy for very good scientific reason. We believe nutrition is the underlying foundation for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

This of course starts with a healthy mother and a health father.

We believe that birth control pills, fast food, microwaved food, soy-craziness, low fat mania and an overload of over processed foods, fluoridated water and the excessive use of artificial sweeteners contribute to the many problems we see today.
We do support the use of B vitamins during pregnancy (like our biosupplemente naturelle) serve to prevent serious birth defects like Spina Bifida. We also support the use of real food and whole food along with an adequate intake of iodine to protect the mother and the developing fetus.

We believe that low iodine is implicated in post partum maternal health issues and also in the cases of Trisomy 21 or Down Syndrome.

In areas where low selenium levels are present in food, iodine is not sufficiently metabolized.

Since SSRIs' contain fluoride which blocks the uptake of iodine by the thyroid, matters are only worsened. This may be a direct correlation to those cases where a mother has killed her child.
Iodine levels and thyroid hormones in healthy pregnant women and birth weight of their offspring.

Study Abstract: The fetus is the most vulnerable to severe iodine deficiency and hypothyroidism during pregnancy. The effects of mild iodine deficiency and subclinical hypothyroidism are poorly known. The present study assesses the association between thyroid hormones and urinary iodine concentration (UIC) in healthy pregnant women and the birth weight of their children.

Methods: 657 pregnant women were recruited in Sabadell and followed until delivery. The association between thyroid hormones during the first trimester, UIC during the first and third trimesters and birth weight was studied in 557, 251 and 528 mother-newborn pairs, respectively, using linear and logistic regression models adjusted for potential confounders. Only 239 women had all data available (thyroid function and UIC at first and at third trimesters). Six percent of newborns were classified as SGA.

Results: The median UIC was 95mug/L and 104mug/L during the first and third trimesters, respectively. Women with third trimester UICs between 100mug/L and 149mug/L had lower risk of having a SGA newborn than women with UICs below 50mug/L (adjusted OR (95%CI): 0.15 (0.03-0.76). There was no significant reduction in SGA among mothers with higher UICs. Lower free T4 and higher TSH levels during the first trimester were not associated with birth weight or SGA. Nevertheless, analysis were repeated including only those women with all data available, and high TSH levels become statistically significantly associated with lower birth weight and higher risk of SGA.

Conclusions: The present study suggests that iodine status during pregnancy may be related to prenatal growth in healthy women.
