Vitamin A and Arsenic Effectively Treat Leukemia, Also Vitamin C

UPDATE: 27 March 2010 - In 1974 the US Cancer Institute presented scientific papers on the findings that Vitamin A was effective  in preventing cancer as well as preventing cellular proliferation.  Additionally, later in 1974 other scientific papers reported that vitamin A is definitively an anti-cancer supplement offering cellular protection and offers protection from malignant growth.  The scientist found that vitamin A reversed the cellular damage caused by the carcinogen and it helps your body's defense mechanism to destroy cancer cells.  This is definitely a substance that offers protection against and reversal of cancers according to the findings.
One must ask exactly what is behind the major effort against using nutritional supplements in the prevention and treatment of cancer today.

This is a very interesting report because it offers an option that is less toxic than standard chemotherapy. It also shows that vitamins are effective and helpful in cancer care.
Leukemia patients treated with arsenic, vitamin A
"The treatment was effective ... and worked better than either drug given alone."
Mon Feb 16, 2009
HONG KONG (Reuters) – Doctors appear to have safely and successfully treated patients with cancer of the blood and bone marrow with a combination of arsenic and vitamin A, according to long-term study in China.

In an article published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the doctors said they prescribed the regimen to 85 patients and monitored them for an average of 70 months.

Of these, 80 patients went into complete remission and the researchers did not find any associated long-term problems in their heart or lungs and there was no development of secondary cancers.

"Two years after their treatment, the patients had arsenic blood and urine levels well below safety limits, and only slightly higher than controls," they wrote.

"The treatment was effective ... and worked better than either drug given alone."

The authors recommended that the treatment be given to patients with blood and bone marrow cancer, or acute promyelocytic Leukemia.

While vitamin A is regarded by some experts as a viable treatment, this is the first time that its use has been monitored for such an extended period of time.

Since the 18th century, arsenic compounds have been used as medicines to treat certain ailments. The US Food and Drug Administration approved it for the treatment of people with blood and bone marrow cancer in 2000.

Patrick Swayze and Cancer Thoughts

I am not much of a TV watcher and for the most part I have one so I can watch movies or play the workout videos I use as part of my daily fitness plan.

Last evening I made a deviation from the norm by watching the Patrick Swayze interview with Barbara Walters.

I was really most interested in what Patrick had to say, and his wife of almost four decades.

I also wanted to hear about the treatment he chose.

I admit I'm a Swayze fan of many years. I too enjoyed some youthful romantic escapades in the Catskills, and I hope his "ghost" hangs around from time to time.

He's been most courageous in his ability to be open and public through his illness and hopefully this stand will help many others. One thing he said that resonated with my work was what he said about how the chemo tore up his insides.

This is important on several levels. First of all this is such a common issue in chemotherapy and its one that is too frequently not addressed.

I have a friend who was just recently diagnosed with AML, a form of leukemia. I sent his wife a abstract I put together on nutrient deletions of chemotherapy drugs. This is a critical issue because of the wasting that so often is related to lack of nutrition and toxic body states caused by the chemo.

I also sent his wife another article written by Dr. H. Kenneth Schueler from New York. Dr. Schueler recently had one of his articles, "Clinical Trial of Pancreatic Enzymes: One View" included in Ralph Moss's newsletter.

This treatment used by Dr. Gonzalez, is based on the work of a dentist, Dr. William D. Kelley. Dr. Kelley was diagnosed in 1962 with pancreatic and liver cancer. He passed away in 2005.

Dr. Kelley's method is soundly based in nutrition. It is also brilliant in its understanding of physiology and biochemistry in the human body. It is one in which I have been educated, and I've seen the good results.

Gonzalez addresses the issue of toxic overload resulting from chemo and how current treatment models do not allow the body to process this waste. He also addresses nutrition and just how important this is in any cancer treatment plan. His research has shown about an 83% cure rate.

As Dr. Schueler says, we need to look again at this program, especially for pancreatic cancer. I couldn't agree more!

Nutrient Depletion in Chemotherapy- general to all chemo drugs in relation to side effects: dysbiosis, stomatitis, pancreatitis, adynamic ileus, gastric mucosa damage and realted damage to microvilli in small intestine, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation.

All of the above side effects relate to malabsorption issues and to a high state of inflammation. The end result is malnutrition. Natural approaches can help substantially with all of the above. (GE)

Consider too the impact of over use of acid reflux drugs and the rising incidence of gluten allergy. There's more to it than smoking.

And you do not have to lose your hair! There is a natural supplement that not only can fight cancers but it protects you from losing hair.

New Attack on Natural Anti-Cancer Food

Some apricot kernels recalled in Canada
Published: June 16, 2009

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a warning about consuming Our Father's Farm-brand apricot kernels in excessive amounts.

The CFIA said Our Father's Farm Ultra Bitter Apricot Kernels contain a natural toxin called amygdalin, which might cause acute cyanide poisoning.

The federal agency said the product has been distributed in Ontario and might have been sold nationally.

"Bitter apricot kernels naturally contain a compound called amygdalin, which has the potential to release cyanide when the kernels are ingested," the CFIA said. "Small amounts of cyanide can be detoxified by the human body, but high amounts may be lethal."

Symptoms of acute exposure to high levels of cyanide can include headache, dizziness, mental confusion, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, seizures and coma.

The CFIA said it is working with the manufacturer to recall the product from the market place.

B17 is naturally found in seeded fruits and berries. This compound is used to protect the seeds from attack by bacteria and viruses. In humans it has been found to attack cancer cells but not normal cells.

Where is Vitamin B-17 found?

In the seeds of fruit from the Prunus Armeniaca family: bitter almonds, apricots, blackthorns, cherries, nectarines, peaches, plums, all members of the raspberry family, macademia nuts, bamboo shoots.
In grains: maize, sorghum, millet, buckwheat
Other: cassava, linseed, apple seeds, white clover, and over 1200 edible plants found throughout the world.
Many of these ingredients have been removed from the menus of modern civilization.
Vitamin B-17 is one of the main sources of food in cultures such as the Navajo Indians, the Hunzas, the Abkasians, the Eskimos and many more. Within these tribes, as they consume their local diet, there has never been a reported case of cancer.

Perhaps it is Health Canada's allegiance to Big Pharma that is more at issue here.

Surviving Mesothelioma

A Review by Gayle Eversole, DHom, PhD, MH, NP, ND

Mesothelioma is a usually rare form of cancer, almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, cancer cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. The most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the heart, the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart) or tunica vaginalis (the serous covering of the testis.)

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in some way. Washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can also put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma. There is generally no association with smoking.

People who are found to have mesothelioma are most often told that the only treatment is surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. They are also offered a very limited life expectancy.

But what if you were given this diagnosis and you believed enough in your self to want to find a better way of care and a longer life.

Paul Kraus was just a person who said no to orthodox treatment, and now, some 12 years later has released his book, Surviving Mesothelioma, and Other Cancers to be a guide for people facing a diagnosis of cancer.

Having worked with people who have mesothelioma from time to time over the many years I have been working with natural healing I found the best outcomes came to people whose will to live was the strongest.

Paul Kraus is just one who held to this belief and now he shares this with you.

One of the best features of Kraus’s book is the format; He chose a format I use in my “Road to Health” series of books. I was pleased to see this format because I have had such positive feedback about it and how easy it is to get right to the information in the books.

A chapter about patient’s rights is included, which I cannot stress enough how important this is in today’s mainstream medical venue.

Reading each page in each chapter is uplifting, as well as providing good information. This is a book for patients and families, but I highly recommend it for all health care providers.

The core of this book, Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers, is that it addresses the four key points for healing: physical, mental emotional and spiritual.

With these, and Kraus’s book as a guide, you have a way to find your healing path.

More information about the book and mesothelioma can be found at: Surviving Mesothelioma.

Costs and Cancer Care: Ruinous

Mainstream medicine costs are driven by the high cost of insurance and the high cost of pharmaceuticals for the most part.

I received a comment on my post Cancer Responds to Love and Natural Medicine and found it to be very positive, but long, and have posted it on my web site.

Related to the cancer issue and mainstream medicine is this about cost, and who ends up paying.

This also pertains to the discussion I had with Katherine Albrecht, and you may still review that program.

Cost of Cancer Care Can Be Ruinous — Even for the Insured

February 10, 2009 – Cancer patients with private health insurance are at risk for huge medical debts, personal bankruptcy, and delaying or forgoing treatment.

These findings come from a new report by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the American Cancer Society, which details the lives and illnesses of 20 patients and their struggles to maintain affordable health insurance and to pay for health care.

"A lot of the time, for a variety of reasons, people with cancer fall through the cracks, and [the heath insurance system] just doesn't work as well as it should. It just does not work," said Drew Altman, PhD, president and CEO of the Kaiser Family Foundation, in Menlo Park, California. He was speaking at a press conference in Washington, DC, to unveil the report, entitled Spending to Survive: Cancer Patients Confront Holes in the Health Insurance System.

The report details major fault lines in health-insurance plans and business practices that leave individuals at risk for financial and personal catastrophe.

For example, high cost-sharing, caps on benefits, and lifetime maximums are all insurance practices that leave cancer patients vulnerable to high out-of-pocket healthcare costs, says the report. Some of the patients profiled in the new report amassed more than $100,000 in medical bills, despite having an insurance policy throughout treatment.

High out-of-pocket expenses are not uncommon. For instance, although the median total out-of-pocket treatment cost for breast cancer patients is $2616, 1 study found that 5% of privately insured breast cancer patients had total out-of-pocket costs that exceeded $31,000, said the report.

"If you get cancer, you may as well kiss everything good-bye," said prostate cancer survivor Tom Olszewski, a 62-year-old retiree from Texas. He talks about the medical costs and consequences of cancer in a video that accompanies the report.

Furthermore, new and more costly treatments are expected to increase the cost of cancer treatment further, added the report.

The patients in the new report were selected to illustrate typical phone callers to the American Cancer Society's Health Insurance Assistance Service. The service helps families navigate the healthcare system.

"Cancer patients too often find out that their insurance doesn't protect them when they need care the most," said John R. Seffrin, PhD, national chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society, in a statement.

Too Sick to Work and Other Problems

Among the pitfalls for the insured is the fact that employment-based health insurance can run out for those too sick to work. Cancer patients who are unable to work can usually continue employer-sponsored insurance coverage for up to 18 months. However, the individual must pay the full premium — an additional cost that can be burdensome for patients typically living on a reduced income, noted the report.

Punitive medical underwriting is another major obstacle for cancer patients. Adequate and affordable coverage is often unavailable to cancer survivors and cancer patients, including those with good long-term prognoses, who lose or change jobs or somehow lose insurance.

Government Programs Also Problematic

High-risk pools designed to help cancer patients are not available to all and may be cost-prohibitive, notes the report. Not all states offer coverage through high-risk pools and, when this coverage is available, it is often much more expensive than other plans in the market.

When cancer patients are too sick to work, they may qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance income. After 2 years of receiving this income, patients can qualify for Medicare coverage.

However, these waiting periods can mean that some cancer patients — those who are too ill to work and have limited incomes — have no insurance coverage during that time, adds the report.

Furthermore, tight eligibility restrictions exclude many cancer patients. For example, cancer patients with low or limited incomes who are unable to afford comprehensive private insurance may still not qualify for Medicaid because of their income levels.

"While public programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, are a crucial source of coverage for millions of Americans, limits on eligibility prevent these programs from providing a safety net for many cancer patients," noted the report.

Delaying Treatment

A 2006 public poll found that 5% of insured cancer patients reported delaying or forgoing treatment because of costs, according to the report.

One cause of delayed treatment can be pre-existing-condition exclusions. A full year of continuous coverage is required under the federal HIPAA rules that govern pre-existing-condition exclusions for employees who switch to a new employer, noted the report.

The report chronicles the trials of Michael Courtney, a 41-year-old auto mechanic from New York with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. He switched employers after his diagnosis and chose the same insurance company that he had at his previous job. However, he learned that the insurer was able to consider his cancer a pre-existing condition because he did not have 12 months of continuous coverage prior to changing jobs.

In the end, Mr. Courtney decided to delay his treatment for 3 months until he exhausted his pre-existing-condition exclusion period.
